Wheels With Internal Gear Hubs

Upgrade To Reliable Internal Gearing!

Harris Cyclery makes a specialty of internal hub gearing for bicycles.

We offer internal gearing options from 2 to 14 speeds, from Rohloff, Schlumpf, Shimano, SRAM and Sturmey-Archer.

We have separate Web pages for each of these gear systems, both for the gear units themselves, and for complete bicycles.

This page is for folks who would like to buy a complete wheel or kit to build up or convert an existing bike to internal hub gearing.

Special Purchase Stock Wheels 622 mm (700c, also known as "29 inch")

WE508 Shimano Nexus 8 with Sun CR-18 $305.95

This is the premium, Ultegra-level "Red Band" hub, built with 36 DT double butted stainless steel spokes.

Fits frames with 130 mm spacing , can be adapted for other spacings.

If your older steel frame has spacing narrower than 130 mm, it is not difficult to "cold set" or spring it to install one of these wheels. See: Sheldon Brown's Frame Spacing Article for detailed instructions.

LD822 Twist Grip Nexus 8 Speed Shifter with cable $24.95

This is the only Nexus 8 shifter that does not come attached to a brake lever. Fits straight 7/8" diameter handlebars, as used on mountain and hybrid bicycles.

LD103 HubBub Bar End Shift Adaptor $54.95

This nicely made adaptor fits into the end of a drop or other handlebar, permitting the Nexus 8 (or any other twist type) shifter to be used with drop "road" handlebars.

BR099 Optional Shimano Rollerbrake ® for Nexus $24.95

Not the greatest brake in the world, but weatherproof. This is just the Rollerbrake ® itself, doesn't include hand lever nor cable.

WE510 7-speed Nexus Coaster-Brake Wheelsets $279.95 pair! with shifter.

Shimano Nexus 7-speed internal gear hub, with built in coaster (back-pedal) brake laced into aluminum 26" (559 mm) rims 36 stainless steel spokes.

These wheelsets make an excellent upgrade for a singlespeed cruiser. 130 mm rear axle spacing may require spreading the frame.

Custom Wheelbuilding Wheels hand-built by Harris Cyclery We build custom wheels, with care and attention to detail. Standard charges:

• $40 each for wheels with 36 or fewer spokes.
• $45 for 40 spoke wheels.
• $50 for 48 spoke wheels.
• $10 for cutting out and prepping a used hub.
• Butted spokes (DT or Wheelsmith) $1.00 each.

We will re-use your old hubs if you wish, but will not use used spokes nor rims.

If you bring in existing wheels to be rebuilt, add $10 per wheel for cutting the old spokes, cleaning and prepping your hub.
