130 mm BCD Cranks for fixed-gear/singlespeed applications

For road applications with fixed gears, you can buy a genuine track crankset, but we normally recommend modifying a "road" double instead.

"Road" cranks are typically considerably less expensive, and use the 130 mm bolt circle, for a much better choice of chainrings at reasonable prices.

Any of the "road" double cranks listed below can be converted to single at no charge. We'll remove one of the chainrings (usually the big one) and replace the original long stack (chainring) bolts with short ones made for single chainring use. We keep the other chainring and long stack bolts to cover our labor in making the conversion.

If you prefer a different size chainring than comes on one of these cranks, we'll generally substitute a Rocket Ring or similar chainring of your choice of size at no additional cost.

165 mm is Good!

We generally recommend 165 mm length cranks for road fixed-gear use. This shorter length makes it easier to spin faster cadences, and also reduces the risk of striking a pedal while cornering (with a fixed gear, where you have to pedal through the corners, this can be an issue.)

130 mm BCD "Road" Double Cranks

Don't need no steenking pins and ramps? These are gorgeous cranks, with 42/52 chainrings. These N.O.S. cranksets were probably made in the early 1990s

These use the traditional tapered-square bottom bracket.

These use 130 mm BCD chainrings, same as the other "road" cranks listed here.

Special Purchase! Shimano 2004 165 mm Sora Double Crank Sets $69.95

These are very nice, low-profile cranks, using the standard "road" 130 mm bolt circle. We mainly sell these for fixed gear use, and stock them 165 mm length only. We have them available stock, as a 39/52 double, or the fixed-gear-ized version, with the stock rings removed and single stack bolts used to secure a 42 or other Tuf-Neck ring of your choice.

The deal on Sora cranks is that the arms are very nice aluminum ones. The reason they're cheaper is that the stock chainrings are steel--but for fixed-gear use, we replace the rings anyway, so they're a great deal. Standard BB is 110 mm.

These are beautiful cranks, with Superglide 42/53 chainrings. The chainrings are round with some special teeth to facilitate shifting, but without the pins and ramps that newer models use.

These 1990 vintage cranks use the traditional tapered-square D3H or D5H bottom brackets, 113-115 length. Use a 107 mm bb to line the outer ring position up with a track hub.

These are excellent cranks, with Superglide chainrings. The chainrings are round with some special teeth to facilitate shifting, but without the pins and ramps that newer models use.

"Road Triple" 130/74 mm Crank Sets

The manufacturers think you're not smart enough to avoid using the small chainring with the smaller rear sprockets. If they're wrong about you, you can get a serious climbing gear by substituting a smaller "granny" ring.

Since the 42 and 52 rings are ramped and pinned to improve shifting, you're probably better off leaving the stock ones in place, but there are no ramps or pins on the small ring, since you never shift up onto it.
