Crank Shorteners

Crank shorteners clamp on to your existing cranks, and allow the pedals to be attached closer to the center of rotation. This allows a young child to pedal the back of a tandem that otherwise might be a bit too large.

"Ride2" crank shorteners

These fit pretty much any standard crank.

They have 4 different pedal holes, allowing the cranks to be effectively shortened by 24, 41, 59 or 76 mm. , 308 grams.

Eccentrics

Building your own tandem? You'll want an eccentric bottom bracket. This unit consists of a steel shell with an aluminum eccentric. The steel shell is a simple piece of tubing, with no holes, ready for TIG welding or fillet brazing. Drill and tap the shell for grub screws to retain the eccentric, or cut slots in it and braze on ears for pinch-clamps.

The eccentric itself is very nicely machined from aluminum, and fits standard 68 mm bottom brackets.
