I've been nagging various manufacturers to build a bike like this for years, but Chris Igleheart is the first one who has been willing to listen! The marketplace is full of pseudo-track "urban warrior" bikes with those stupid, atavistic rear opening fork ends. They work OK for brakeless bikes, but they're a major hemorrhoid if you want to use a flip-flop hub!We were really excited when Salsa brought out their long horizontal dropouts. These are even nicer than the classic Campagnolo 1010 dropouts, with no extraneous derailer hanger!
Handmade in Massachusetts by Chris Igleheart.
- True "drop outs", the front opening axle slot permits you to remove/flip the wheel without having to derail the chain from the chainring first, a major time saver.
- The axle slot is angled to be roughtly perpendicular to the seat stays, so you can use the whole length of the slot for different sprocket sizes, without needing to fiddle with height of the brake shoes.
- True drop outs are also much more "fender friendly." They permit a nice tight fender installation and still let you get the wheel on and off.
