Nu Vinci Infinite Speeds Hub
*The N360 has many advancements over the original NuVinci Hub:

  • Lighter Weight: Over 30% Lighter
  • Smaller Size: 17% Smaller Diameter
  • Wider Ratio Range: 360% “Gear-Free” Shifting
  • Easier Shift Effort: Even Under Load
  • Less Shifter Rotation : Only ¾ Turn from Low to High
  • New, Sleek Shifter: More Intuitive; Easier Twist Adjustments
  • Hub Interface: Inboard Frame Dropout; Cleaner / More Protected
  • Sealed Hub: Maintenance-free; No Adjustments
  • World Class Reliability, Durability and Quality
  • Smoothest, Easiest-Shifting Drivetrain Ever!
  • Internal gear hubs have been around for over a century.

    Initially they were 3-speed models.

    Later 4-, 5-, 7-, 8-, 9-, 12- even 14-speeds came along.

The new NuVinci hub from Fallbrook Technologies goes farther yet, it is a continuously-variable hub, with an infinite number of "gears!"

Using a novel system of rotating spheres instead of toothed, fixed-ratio gears, the NuVinci hub permits you to fine tune your gain ratio steplessly, giving you exactly the gain ratio you prefer for any conditions, within its range.

Here's a YouTube video showing how it works:

    Fitting Requirements/Specifications

    Twist Shifters and Drop Handlebars.

The Fallbrook NuVinci hub works only with shifters made for it.

These shifters are designed to fit straight handlebars with a 7/8" (22.2 mm diameter.) This includes basically all upright or "mountain bike" type handlebars, but does not include drop bars as used on most touring bikes.

There are several ways to get around this limitation however. Probably the best is the HubBub adaptor mount:

LD103 HubBub Bar End Adaptor buy button

This is a very nicely made extension that fits into the end of your drop handlebar. It uses the same mounting hardware as Shiman bar-end shifters. The position is quite convenient. If you wish, you can cut the bar itself shorter on this side.

If you are handy, here are a couple of alternatives:

I have used both of these, but I prefer the ergonomics of the HubBub setup. It's really convenient, in fact much more convenient than bar-end derailer shfiters, because it uses a motion more natural to the human hand.

Did You Ever Have A Three-Speed?

Do you remember how easily it shifted, even when you were stopped for a traffic light?

Do you remember how trouble-free it was?

Do you remember how the chain never fell off?

Do you remember how weather-proof the gear system was?

Do you remember how comfortable it was?

    But...

You also probably remember the narrow range of gears, and the big jumps in between.

You probably remember the gap between gears, where your feet would spin freely, with no result.

You probably also remember how heavy your old "all steel" bicycle was,

and how badly the brakes worked in the rain...

    The Good Without The Bad!

The NuVinci continuously-variable hub combines the best features of your old 3 speed, and eliminates the worst, thanks to modern materials and technology.
